On Moving Fast

When I worked at Facebook, my favorite motto was “Move Fast.” To this day, I still always err on the side of moving fast as opposed to waiting to ship something until it reaches perfection.

Sometimes though, I move so quickly that I forget to share with you all some of the things that are on my mind. This blog post is a combination of all of those things! So here is what’s on my mind:

1. The death of organic reach:

I wrote a whole blog post about this a few weeks ago and discussed it in my Tri-State Camp Conference session. I’ve started to really think through what it could like when every post on Facebook has to be paid to get any reach. What posts should camps pay for? What audiences are worth paying to reach? Should we be reaching them on desktop or mobile? Should we reach them on a different platform?

2. Ratings and reviews:

Right now there are only a few websites with reviews on camps. In the future I expect there to be a lot more and that Google and Facebook reviews will play a big role here too. I’m working now to develop a plan for camps to monitor, curate and respond to ratings and reviews.

3. Giving back:

Back before I had a business in the summer camp industry, I had a huge passion for helping send more kids to camp. When I met the amazing team at SCOPE, I knew I wanted to get involved. I’m proud to announce that I will be working with a small team of volunteers in Texas to launch a new SCOPE chapter, SCOPE Southwest! This is something I’ve been passionate about for a long time and I’m excited to see it grow.

Well folks, that’s what is on my mind! Move fast.
